STEP #2:  Setting up for the hook
STEP #1:  Preparing the Banner
Whether it's a letter banner or
billboard banner, it must be rolled
out on the ground on the opposite
side of the plane's approach.  The
banner and rope are checked
carefully for any damage or safety
hazards.
Two poles are then set in the ground and the banner rope is draped over hooks
attached to each pole.  The pilot takes off, circles the runway and sets up for the hook.
As the pilot approaches the banner
rope, he releases the hook and
expertly flies directly over, low
enough to hook the banner rope.
The pilot immediately pulls up and
receives confirmation from the
ground crew that the banner has
been successfully launched.
The banner pilot carefully
maneuvers the plane at a safe
but low altitude.  He is at all
times conscious of any tall
structures and local air traffic.
At the end of the banner pull, the pilot
releases the banner over the airport drop
zone.  The banner crew then carefully
rolls up the banner and equipment in
preparation for the next tow.
